It’s not a big or new thing at least for some people but for me it’s. I’ve been hearing about virtualization concepts, techniques and softwares long time ago. But I never tried these before. Now I got a true situation to use the Virtual PC concept.
Earlier I had a wrong concept about Virtual PC. I thought it will work fine with already installed operating systems. I’ve installed Windows XP and Windows Vista as Dual boot option in my box. I have to study about an existing software which runs under Windows 2000 only.
Being frank, I really hate to go back to older version of OS after making a switch. I’m comfortable with Windows Vista now. No big problems (some pricky bugs are still there) are there.
I’ve not tried VMWare because it need license to operate and also I don’t need to install a non-Windows operating system. Seems there’s no much difference in the operating environment.
The installation was clean enough. You will have to install a fresh copy of OS to the new virtual machine created. I configured Virtual PC with the help of Wizard. I had a doubt that VPC supports multiple partition for the gues operating system. When I started Windows 2000 Installation through Virtual PC, that doubt came to an end. It supports multiple partition and all. Few minutes later, I completed the installation. In my first impression, it supports most of the operations under a normal-installed OS.
I’m still a bit feared of installing licensed software in VPC because I’m not sure the desired software runs under this environment. Hope there will not be any problems. Anyway let me explore more. Feel free to share more about your virtualization experiences.
